- Unlocking the ratio can stretch or squash the image.
- Making a small image larger cannot create true new detail.
03Common resize tasks
Resize when a platform or layout expects specific dimensions.
- Preparing social images at 1080×1080, 1080×1350 or 1200×628.
- Downsizing camera photos for a website or email.
- Creating 1920×1080 or 1280×720 presentation and video assets.
04Resize once from the best source
Downscaling usually looks clean; substantial enlargement can appear soft.
- Keep aspect ratio locked unless distortion is intentional.
- Use the original image for each new target size rather than resizing a previous copy.
Dimensions changed on-device
Image decoding and resizing happen locally in the browser.
- Very large megapixel images may exceed mobile memory.
- The source image is never sent to an external resizing API.
