Check horizontal versus vertical flipping

Try without a personal file. The sample is an asymmetric colour grid, 640 × 320 pixels.

Source: red left edge and asymmetric colour grid
Original · 640 × 320
640 × 320 → 640 × 320 pixels. The red left edge moves to the right; the top row remains at the top.

  1. Download the sample and open it with Choose files in the tool above.
  2. Direction: horizontal
  3. 640 × 320 → 640 × 320 pixels. The red left edge moves to the right; the top row remains at the top.

Use vertical to exchange the top and bottom instead. Both reverses both axes, equivalent to a 180° rotation. A mirror also reverses writing in a photo.

Why is text backwards?

Mirroring reverses every pixel, including letters. To correct camera orientation without reversing text, use Rotate Image instead. Keep the original to undo an export.

How to flip an image

Mirror the frame along either axis.

  1. Select an image.
  2. Choose horizontal, vertical or both directions.
  3. Process the image and review text, faces and composition in the result preview.
  4. Download the changed image.

Flipping without resizing

A flip reverses pixel positions while keeping the same width, height and file format.

  • Horizontal flip creates the familiar mirror effect.
  • Vertical flip turns the image across a horizontal axis.

Why mirror an image

Flipping can correct capture behavior or improve a layout.

  • Correcting mirrored selfie-camera text.
  • Reversing the direction a person or object faces in a design.
  • Creating symmetrical references or alternate compositions.

Geometry stays exact

Flipping does not invent or rescale pixels, though compressed formats are re-exported.

  • Check readable text because a mirror makes it backward.
  • Use high JPG quality if the image contains fine detail.

Mirrored locally

The source and result preview remain in your browser while the job is open.

  • No external editing service receives your image.
  • Remove the file from the tool after saving when using a public computer.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is flipping the same as rotating?

No. Flipping mirrors pixels across an axis; rotating turns the whole frame.

Will a horizontal flip reverse text?

Yes. All image content, including text, is mirrored.

Does the image size change?

The pixel dimensions remain the same.
